clam question

I'm starting to learn about clams and was wondering about health issues. There's a place locally that does not sell the most healthy live aquatica, but they have cheaper clams. What kind of diseases can they carry, and what can you do to prevent spreading the "fun" into your tank?

If not healthy then do not buy reef keeping 101. Why waste money?

Clams can be challenging to keep and I wouldn't start with one that is one down already. IMHO get the healthiest you can find to give yourself some room for error, especially if your new to them. There are some great sites that sale clams that are healthy, so if you cant get them local order em. Besides that why would you want to support a place that mistreats their animals?

I've never shopped at this place. I've heard a few stories of ich outbreaks. But no lfs is safe from ich. From what I understand, this is no deathcamp (*****) style shop. It's just a few people had a thread. Some good stories a few bad... Like I said though, I just want to know what diseases could be spread from a clam. I know ich can't be spread through inverts, but couldn't some contaminated water be trapped within the mantle?
