Clam With Power Compacts?

I understand that clams need lots of light to thrive and it is not ideal conditions for them to be under power compacts but could you put one in a 12g pod with 52 total watts of lighting? I heard you might be able to if you put them in the top of your tank. Thoughts?

I have a Derasa Clam in my 60g under 192watts of PCs (Current Dual Satellite). Seems to be doing well...

for how long?
I have had a crocea under 500W of PC (and I am terrified it is going to die.) everything in my expirience says and tells me {various sources, having them in the petstore, friends losing them, and the way it looked when one bulb broke} long term it is really chancy to run a clam on low light. they need "INTENSE" light. if some one says its been alive for 6-8 months (thats not long term) 8 months is approaching long term. long term they will not make it without high light. good feeding can possibly stretch this period as long as good feeding doesnt affect water quality. (only for a short time though)

Pc do not put out the light that a MH can put out so chances are the claim will survive but i dont know how long before it starts to bleach.

hmmmmmm. I dont plan on getting new lighting untill at least x-mas and I had never even considered getting a clam untill I heard they may be able to go under PC's, I always just assumed I was SOL on these awesome critters. There is a place that sells them for $25 which is half the price of any I'd ever seen and figured it may be worth a shot. As of this point I dont think I would want to get one. I may wait untill september/october to do the deed since new lights wouldnt be too far away at that point. thanks again Zman.
Quill- how long has your clam been in there?
