hello everyone, i have two clams sitting on the sand in the middle of my 265 reef. They always seem to to find each other, no matter where I place tehm on the sand. My question is it ok to put one up on the rocks or do they need to be on the sand bed?

You answered your own question. The clams are moving to a place where they are both happy. It's kind of YOUR choice to seperate them and try to put them in different areas. They may be tussling for local real estate based on the flow of that one area. If they are, usually their mantles will touch (awwwwwwwwww), because they are trying to cut the other one off from it's light source.
