clams under vho's

Squamosa, derasa, and gigas can be kept sucesfully under VHO's since they're found deeper in the ocean.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe PC's are a little more intense than VHO but VHO has more bulb choices. I think they're about equal.

Jim,
I don't think you're wrong. PC are definately more intense than VHO. For some reason things grow better for me under the VHO though. Maybe it's just my taste for corals.

VHO has a much better quality of light then PC do. It is , of course an arguable statment, but, I have run both setups on the same tank and had much, much better growth and coloration with the VHO.
I do belive that they are more intense for their size but, intensity is far from everything!

Bang Guy.. What type of clams are those? I like the red one. I'm still a little hesitant to get one even though i just added a MH to my VHOs. Plus my plate took over the prime real estate for a clam in my tank and won't give it up.. I tried to move him and he found his way back.

Those are both Squamosa. The Red one I've had since he was bite-size. The other I traded for a few months ago.

My lfs had great looking clams in. The one i liked the most was a green and gold squamosa. I went by there recently and they didn't have any of the clams left. I asked about them and they said the AC went out on the store and they lost all of the clams and a bunch of other stuff. I should have bought that guy when i had the chance.

Thank you :)
I traded for it at my LFS. I had no idea what it would look like once it grew up. I was a little tiny aquacultured one. I wish I had found a way to get a dozen from him.

I have one question about temp for these guys. My tank runs at 83-84 because of my MH. Is that too high. I know that they live in cooler water than that because my girlfriend just got back from a research trip to indonesia and she said she saw them all over the place. The water temp there was mid to high 70s at the time. I want to take the dive in and get one of them in the next month or two but want to make sure everything is ok in my tank for them. Also for placement.... Are they affected by other corals such as a frogspawn?

I keep my reef at exactly 83F. I've not noticed any ill effects on the clams. I avoid letting other coral contact the clams but Once in a while I'll notice a mushroom or Xenia attached to the shall and the clam seems oblivious.
