not entirely sure, only a few of us have T5 lighting and I dont keep clams. Keep a look out for Barracuda, he has T5 lighting and he has lots of corals, but not sure about clams...
Best Wishes,
Tim.

I curently have a crocea clam under my T5 4 bulb set up. So far so good. I placed him half way up the tank. Although my LFS said that it would take 3 months to loose a clam. Who knows, it has been 3 weeks and no change in color, and seems to be fine. All the T5 non-believers out there are staring to see the light!!! hahaha My lfs who is die hard metal halide just got a 6 bulb set up and is showing me these things like I have never heard about them before!! I told him that I have been mentioning it to them for about a month, but oh well let him see for himself. Hows your tank duing Mr TIMES??? I saw that you were having some problems a while back.

3 weeks honestly is not enough time to see how the clam will do in the longrun. It could take several months before the clam dies under that lighting. I would actually tend to agree with the LFS's advice, that the clam would most likely be lost within the first 3 months of being purchased.
I honestly don't trust those T-5's, regardless of the information said about them. T-5 lighting is fairly new. It could take years to figure out if something will really
live under the T-5 lighting. I would always stick with halides when it comes to keeping Tridacna clams, esspecially the light-loving T. Maxima and T. Crocea

Hi Guys,
C-17 Jet Mech - Mine are doing great! I ahvent tested them or used them to full potential yet due to the problems ive been having! However, diatoms are now going (due to better water circulation), flatworm has gone and apstasia is under control! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! What wattage are your 4 bulbs? Are they 54w x 4 and 2 actinic and 2 white?
SPSFreak100 - Have a look at barracudas tank under T5 - nuff said!
All the best,
Tim.

Yes sir, they are 54w. My die-hard metal halide loving lfs is going to have a clam only tank with t5 lights on top. You wouldn't believe how excited this guys was about this lighting system! "You should see the lux meter", but then I told him about PAR, even though I really dont understand it and eally dont want to. haaaaha Anyway I wonder what people thought about MH when it first came to the aquatic industry? I pretty sure that alot of people thought it was crazy! Oh well, I'll see how the clam is holding out and keep everyone informed.

Does anyone know the site where I can read up on these lights? While everyone raves about them, all I can find is that they are smaller, 1/2" diameter lights, with a good wattage, but all say they burn at around 6500K or lower, and only penetrate about 18". Is this accurate? If so, I can't see keeping all of that under 6500K bulbs.

hi buzz,
If you have a look on my website (in sig.) under the lighting section (lol the only section completed) I have written a bit there.
There have a been a lot of threads on T5's recently, im thinking of writing a definitive article on them when I get more time in the next few weeks.
All the best,
Tim.

Dang Tim - you must miss all that research and paper writting required by your professors!!
If you do enough research here and across the internet Buzz you will find an awful lot about them in short order!!

I have been searching the Internet, and I am finding a lot of sites mentioning it, but most say it has only a 6500K intensity, and is only good to 18" deep. Something doesn't seem right about that, given the raves it is getting. So I want to know where everyone else is getting their info.
