All i can tell you, about them is that they require
a lot of light, and they seem to prefer to be on
the bottom, instead of on a piece of rock. They
are beautiful,to look at.
Difficult animals to take care of and they need very intense lighting and they are filter feeders and require alot of feeding needs. Not worth the hastle unless you have the time. IMO
I have a 6" Ultra Maxima Clam which does great! It is in a 180g reef on some rock about 3/4 the way up in the tank. I have (3) 175w MH and (2) Actinic VHO's. I think as long as you have the lighting requirements they are easy to care for.
If you have the correct light, clams are relatively easy to care for, they require phytoplanktons because they are filter-feeders. As for lighting, combination of MH and actinics seem to work well for them. They are quite interesting, I love to look at them especially when their mantle is fully extended. I know of a site that has great selection of magnificent colors and their clams sell like pancakes...Awesome clams!
