Clean Protein Skimmer??????

Good evening everybody, My question is how often I'm I supposed to clean my protein skimmer, if at all? The reason I'm asking is my skimmer is looking really dirty and even has stuff (hair algae and other dubris like things) growing inside of it?

Clean that thing. I clean mine about every two months. The cup everytime I empty it.

It gets cleaned with every water change along with everything else.

I try to do mine once a week, they work better when clean... at least for me.
