I have been reading about the cleaner clams, and it seems there is a lot of differing opinions on them.
Was hoping to get some feedback on the good and the bad on these clams.
We all know they are ugly, but they live under the sand....so who cares.

I have cleaner clams in my tank and in my refugium. The only time I ever see the ones in the tank is when I am cleaning the tank and I came up on them. I just think they are interesting!

I have cleaner clams in my 225 (3) and in my 54 (1)....I rarely see them, but that means they are doing their job....I think they are a positive thing for a tank...
I don't think they are ugly....LOL...they are clams

I'm one of those on the other side of the fence. I wouldn't put them in my tank to be a cleaner. IMO, you'll need many to have any effect so they are just adding to the bioload. Most are meant to be in coldwater. I know there are warmer water species out there, but most of what are being sold as cleaner clams are coldwater. Because they can survive in warmer water, doesn't mean they are suppose to be there.

Cranberry, so are you saying we are actually harming the clam??? All the cleaners I have, I have purchased from this site....I have not lost any, but I really do not want to cause harm to anything ....I have had the ones in my 225g for months....they seem to be ok

p.s. Cranberry I have used your lionfishlair library many times...THANKS...If you were to put out a book on these critters...I'd buy it

She is saying that just because they will survive, doesn't mean that they belong.
I agree with her. I have 5+ of these clams in my tank that hitchhiked there and would never actually buy them.

No more than me cracking one open for supper! These are pretty much eatin' clams.
I'm working hard on the site trying to get it up and running. I'm glad it has served a purpose in it's young state.
