Cleaner Clams

I'm getting a couple cleaner clams in a cuc package. Every other time I've had cleaner clams, they were dead within a day or two. I suspect the other members of the cuc ate them. Do cleaner clams need a sand bed? I was thinking of putting them next to my return pump in my wet/dry where there is no sand.

Unfortunately, "cleaner clams" typically don't do so well in aquaria, and since they dwell within the substrate, one never knows when they die. Keep an eye on them.
