Cleaner Shrimp Behavior..

I purchased a cleaner shrimp today at my LFS, and acclimated him according to there suggestion. He seems to be doing well and does not seem to be dying. He is, however, hanging out in one spot and not moving along the rock much. He is also moving his front claws? around in a side to side motion.
Is this normal? This is one of the first things I have added to my tank so dont know what to expect.
Thx everyone.

You say you added it today?? Give it time to get use to its new surroundings....watch what it does when the lights go out ;)

I have a 155G with two cleaners and they NEVER leave one side of the tank. Most cleaner shrimp usually set up "shop" or a "cleaning station" and stay put. The fish learn that this is where they can be found and it's where they go to be cleaned.
My cleaners in my 40G were everywhere, but the ones in my 155G, I don't think they even know how big the tank actually is

Yours could be setting up shop, or still getting used to its surroundings, either way, normal behavior.

Whew, thx I was so excited to add him and was nervous that he wouldnt make it. And I've checked a couple time tonight with the lights out and he will move a little than go back to his spot.
Thx again for the quick reponses!

No problem....my cleaner has a nice cave (shop) set up....BUT I have it trained so in the morning when I feed the tank....it will come out and I will give it a piece of scallop....(with tongs of course...tank is too deep)

Haha thats awesome, I should try that ;)
You will have to get it use to whatever you use....and once it realizes it's food...and not a threat...it should come to it and take it
at least mine does..LOL
OHHH I also feed some peeprmint shrimp, emerald crabs, and a sally light foot the same way

I have 2 cleaners in my 55g and they attack my hand anytime i put it in the water. They also chase around the turkey baster i use to spot feed and steal the food out of the mouths of my corals. Smart little buggers...

mine is NUTS!!! he is hosting in my giant purple carribean anemone and will jump right into the middle of it if i feed it a silverside fish. he will pick at the fish until he becomes overwhelmed with tenticals and them he jump away and slowly makes his way back in for the kill. the shrimp will fallow my spot feeds and attack my hand also. he will swim upside down 1/2 way across my 125g tank just to catch a frozen brine shrimp.
he is the most active reefer i have.

Sorry to be repetitive, but just to clarify this will still be fine once the clowns are added? And giving him "treats" every now and than is ok?
