I just got an invertebrate package and added it to my tank today. One of the first things my cleaner shrimp did was yank a small, blueleg hermit crab from his shell and munch him up
I only saw him eat the one, but he may have eaten more, as I can only find a couple right now.
Is the cleaner shrimp doing this out of starvation? Is it normal for them to eat hermits?
My tank does not have a lot of living stuff, so I'm thinking that the cleaner shrimp may have been starving. I fed him flakes every once in a while (just holding a flake in my fingers and putting my arm down next to the shrimp) but other than that, I never really saw him eat anything.
At least he's leaving my snails and red leg hermits alone
