(disclainer) read a lot of posts on cleaner shrimp: couldn't find the right spelling.... LOL
I watched the esqueleton of my shrimp tucked between (not sure it was really between) two heads of a large clump of coral candy... everything was gone less than 3 hrs later.... I know it takes a longer time for the all thing to desintegrate.
Could the coral candy have eaten it???
thanks.

It most likely floated away and you couldn't find it. I wouldn't say it ate it unless you saw it hanging out half way of it's mouth, half eaten.

I definitely saw the exsqueleton firmly wedged in or between two heads of my large candy canes (7 INCHES ACROSS).. It was gone in three hours.
It was not floating aroung. It could not be floating around. It was firmly wedged in the SC.

Thanks.... the residue or the molting is the word you just spelled for us.

No worries. There is no reason an LPS coral should pass up an exoskeleton (moult). They are made up of chiton. Although the shrimp's body will have removed most of the nutritional value out of the chiton it will still contain an accumulation of useful minerals.

I also have a yellow tang.... my shrimps have molted numerous time. I have never seen the tang interested. I still believe the candy cane ate it.... Bang Guy (post above) says it's possible.
Thanks
