Cleaner Shrimp in Agg tanks?

shark bait

Cleaner shrimp can be kept with sharks AS LONG as they went in the tank first. The shark will, well maybe, leave it alone as it was in the tank and not added as meal. I would try it. A cleaner shrimp is a great help to fish and is always good to have. But if you stick to good feeding, eg if your tank is 72-74* once a week the shark would not eat it, but if the temp is high eg 76-78 the shark needs to eat more and if you dont feed it, the shrimp will be gone. Sharks body will stay the same temp as the tank, and the metabolism will go up or down with the temp, so 72* is good and this will slow down the growth rate and also the feeding. Good luck Just some back ground on why it can work and wont work.

Here's a good thread, of a fellow hobbiest that I know...keeps Cleaner Shrimp with a large Queen Trigger, Clown Trigger and Pink Tail Trigger...has had them for some time together.
Don't worry, mods...this particular website has no retail sponsorship and does not link to ANY retail saltwater fish stores.

Ive always been curious but never asked, in an agressive tank like yours with eel's how do u keep the sand bed clean without a cleaner crew? Since your eels are snacking on your shrimp.

Do you just keep up with the vacuming of the sand?
Ive herd some people use those large strawberry hermit crabs, herd any luck stories with those?

I keep a clean up crew...hermits and snails. I no longer keep Cleaner Shrimp with my Morays because there really wasn't any reason for it, other than to see if it could be done.
If you check the "meanest tankmate" thread, here in the aggressive forum, you'll see my success with Strawberry Hermits.

My strawberry is very large and does a great job keeping the sandbed clean in my 180g. Only problem is it knocks corals off the LR sometimes.
Also in my old tank i had a huge volitan and a humu humu trigger with a coral banded and a cleaner shrimp. The cleaner shrimp would clean both all the time, until i had to move a rock and for some reason the trigger decided to eat him.
Other than that they were all together for about a year.

No crustacean is safe with a SFE. Mine took on a purple reef lobster half it's length and three times its width. All I found left of the lobster was a claw. It's been over two years since Lucy the Lobster became dinner.
