cleaner shrimp with aggressives?

I have two good size cleaner shrimp, and I'm switching over to an aggressive 150 g tank. Will have clown trigger, picasso, lion, eel. I've heard that cleaner shrimp are left alone because of the "service" they provide? True, or will they be food? Thanks.

All I can say I went through the same dilemma about a month ago.... 2 good size skunk shrimp with a SFE about 2.5' ... I could not believe it when I saw the Shrimp cleaning the SFE's mouth!
So far so good!

It is entirely possible, esp with some of those triggers, that they will be eaten...or at least you will be spending a lot of money on them while they last.
As an aside, I would really reconsider keeping that clown trigger with a lionfish. They are potential nippers, as are all triggerfish. But the clowns can be quite nasty indeed.

I have 3 cleaners with 2 Triggers and they are quite fond of them and "so far" have not touched them. The inverts were in the tank first.

Dont I know it! I have a humu and a blue throat in with my lion. They've all been living happily together for months and just the other day the blue throat went to town on my lion! He looks very ragged right now.

So, the lion's poison doesn't protect it?

Not from something like a clown trigger, IMO. Lions are slow moving and pretty docile. They don't really stand a fighting change from some of the triggers. If a big fish like a grouper came and tried to swallow the lion whole...then that would be a problem for the grouper. But picking at its eyes, stomach and fins...fair game.

I would say prepare yourself to lose them but hope for the best. There is really no way to know exactly what they will do, and many may "change their minds" over time as well.

not only are clowns mean but your piccasso isnt very nice either
I would have a piccasso right now if it wasnt for my lion
The problem is with triggers is that they learn "I can taste the lion without dieing" after they learn that lions can be de-finned in no time flat

I have skunk cleaner shrimp in my 2 tanks with a fully grown V. lion (which loves to get cleaned) A large spiny box puffer, A large Porc. puffer, and a Cali Ray and all the shrimp are fine and everyone loves the cleanings! The shrimp were all added about a year after everything else.

When you add them help them get to the rocks fast before the other fish can see them. Once they see there back and there markings they should see them as neutral and know what their there for.

There is a difference however when one thinks of it, for it be one thing that these aggressive fish species have much need of these cleaners out in the wild for if not for the cleaning stations the wild life of the sea would die out.
However when it comes to a home aquarium, it be a whole another story for if you are one those people who QT your fish and not add any new arrivals as many others do, you might fine that the fish can do so much better health wise then what the wild has to offer these aquarium pets.
In an eel only tank, a cleaner will not last for long and im sure that a good number here knows this too well. I myself however had not had any cleaners with me eels for over 40 years and before that I tried off and on with the different eel species.

From experience, the cleaner shrimp will prolly be ok for a while because the fish seem to know that its doing them a favor. However, you have an eel, and a guy I work with gave his friend his snowflake and the snowflake ate the shrimp. Without the eel, i think as long as you kept ur fish well fed they will leave them alone.

I think another problem will be the nitrates. Aggressive fish setups are really hard to maintain on 0 nitrates. I don't think shrimps will tolerate the nitrate levels or will they?

My cleaner shrimp lived with my Lion for many months until one day I must not have fed him enough - the cleaner never stood a chance.
Since then I have attempted to add another - the new one lasted MAYBE 15 minutes before he was eaten also.
The Lion also ate a Coral banded shrimp - and now my SFE is eating the hermits - luckily there are at least 100 or so hermits so there are so to spare but still!
I know some people have better luck and it is a very individual thing but I will not be putting shrimp back in the tank - cant stand the thought of them being dinner
