Cleaning Algae off glass

What's the best method of removing algea from the glass of your tank? I have the real hard green stuff that sticks and is a pain to scrub off. Well, I came a across a piece of steel wool in my junk drawer. I tried a little piece on the glass, and it rubs the alqae right off. So, ? is, will the steel wool kill my corals? Will it rust the water and stuff? It's the best thing there is though for cleaning off your glass.

We use several different things to clean algea off the glass, magnits(sp)one on the inside one on the outside, works pretty good, I bought a scrubby from the store that you can use for pots and pans, its like a hard plastic, it also works pretty good, the best we have found so far is a scrapping tool we bought through a lfs on line, it has a razor blade in it, scraps that hard green algea away quick like... Hope this helps, Later Lisa

Hey,
I wouldn't use steel-wool since it will leave a whole lot of fine scratches in your glass. I've found that the razorblade is the best for those real tuff spots. HTH
Take care,

Personally I'd avoid the steelwool........likely will cause scratches and leave particles of the wool in the tank........myself I use a old visa card.....clean my front glass with it approximately every 4-5 days....works like a charm.....scrapes stuff right off........includeing coraline

LFS's have the "razor blade on a stick" so I like to call them. Sell'em for like 6 bucs. Best investment money can by. Where can you get something for $6 in this hobbie that works so good?
