Cleaning my skimmer

I bought this used protein skimmer but it has a ton of calcium (I assume) build up. It there a way to remove the black top to get out the central cylander to clean it?

If it matters, it is a Red Sea Berlin HO 25-250 gal skimmer

vinager is the best to use it clean cal. deposits and lime too and if you dont get it all out no problem just dont use anti-bactieral
soap just the you cant get it all resadue will wipe out the bio load

Will "Lime away" work or am I just asking for trouble there?

i cut mine in half and then used a rubber 4" pipe sleeve and clamp to put it back togther
