cleaning outside of glass...

Question about cleaning the outside of the glass... what do you use? my wife has wanted to use glass cleaner, but i am concerened about the amonia- have been using a cloth with come vinegar on it.
is glass cleaner ok? maybe not if sprayed right on the tank, but sprayed on a cloth, and then used to clean the glass?

I only use a wet paper towel then use a soft cloth to dry it off

ditto i use a spray bottle with water in it and just wipe it off.. this works for me because im always working on it and getting it dirty

I have been useing the windex on the papertowel for over 25 yrs no problem yet. Good Luck

I am anal about lint so I found an old pillow case that had a really tight weave fiber and spray the cleaner on it.
schroder_reef: I found out on my car that using a paper towel with die's in it streake it up prety bad so maybe you might want to try a different brand. Thats why I use the pillow case.

I once had a job cleaning high-rise windows. We used dishwashing soap. but the best thing that you can use on something as simple as a fish tank, just use a paper towel "dry". windex will leave streaks.

Am I the only guy that uses windex on black and white news paper? man you gota see how clean and shiny the glass becomes! all dealer ships use newspaper on glass!

My lfs told me that the ingredients in the glass cleaners will seep into the tank and cause damage or kill the fish. I use only water.

Nope, Seabass, I use newspaper as well. Learned that trick froma homeless guy washing windows (Well, he rushed the car and forced me to pay him for washing the windshield) Good thing though, because it works great.

grabby, mine did too, but that was before he gave me advice that killed all of our fish, but , logically, what in windex can seep THROUGH glass???, the big thing is , do not spray at tank, you canNOT completely control the spray, wet the towel then wipe

i wipe with a damp rag and wipe it off with wet sheepskin used for drying cars. no streaks,scratches,and no stress..

Windex and some old newspapers. Never had any problems.

try this get a rag and a towel wet the rag with as hot of water that you can sand on your hands ring it out very good wip off your glass then right away wipe the glass with the towel.

newspaper is cheap instead of paper towels & leaves you with more money to spend on your tank & it does work great
