Cleaning Overflow Box

I have an old OverFlow Box from someone elses aquarium. He didnt clean it good when he took it off his tank. Anyone know a good way getting off all the grime. I know using cleaners is out of the question and good ole elbow grease wont work for some of the harder to reach places. Should I just clean what I can get and not worry about the corners and other tough places. Or should I just take the hit and get another OverFlow Box. You know in this hobby........ Save all the money you can!!!
TIA

The 100,000 question is what kind of overflow box is it? If it is a nice one such as a Lifereef than it is worth cleaning. IMO, if it is a junky one get a Lifereef overflow! Overflows are usually the single point of failure in most systems. All it takes is one power failure for a junky model not to restart the siphon and you are looking at a flood and a burned up pump which can be a fire hazard! Don't go cheap here or it WILL cost you (it is just a matter of time!)
As far a cleaning get a bottle brush and some vinegar. Rinse it out good when you are done scrubbing it.

attml nailed it on the head! i would clean it out no matter what as you need something in the tank, and the more dirty an overflow box is, the less efective it is. the u tube alone growing algae can severely cut back the rate of water turnover, adn can actually cause the tank to overflow from th edisplay if not taken care of properly....
clean it up and maybe get a better one!
good lu ck
