Cleaning your skimmer

I just started using my skimmer again after about a year and a half of not using it. I also have a refugium, thats the reason for not using it. Anyway the center column of the collection cup and the underside of the lid gets a build up that needs to be wiped off, it wont just rinse off. So I was wondering how does everyone clean their collection cup. Do you just dump it? Do you rinse it? Do you wipe it out?

I dump....... rinse...... and wipe........

I rinse it in cold water and use a clean paper towel each time I wipe the cup. I do not clean the inside of the bubble chamber body. I do not want to risk scratching the surface and affecting the bubble flow. Call me paranoid.

I dump the water, and rinse and clean the cup, lid with a designated sponge just for the skimmer. You really want to make sure the up tube is clean so that the skimmer can do a proper job in cleaning the tank of unwanted nutrients.

I use an old tooth brush....
