Did a water cheage a day ago and my water is still cloudy. I also have a lot of really green alge growing should I give less light to the take during the day. How long do you think a 72G will take to completely cycle with pleamty of live rock.

I'm no expert but I have done a lot of research. I would test you nitrite, nitrate and ammonia level. High levels of nitrate will cause your algae to flurish. Try cut back on the amount of light. If you have the sun shrinning on the tank, block it. If you have corals or anything that require a lot of light, do not cut the light, except the sun light, it will kill your "light lovers". Try and invest in some "cleaner animals" like a cleaner shrimp or snail. Make sure the new animal is compatible with anything in the tank. If you have brown algae keep you phosphates below .1 (.03ppm) or use astrea snails: 2-3/gallon. A tang or surgeon species of fish will feed on the green algae.
Good luck!

Give it a lot of time... Maybe throw in some activate carbon into the cannister filter or the sump (if you have one). Otherwise a cleaner shrimp could start the job. When everything subsides get a cleanup crew in there to handle th algae.

as far as cloudy goes, use ACTIVATED CARBON!!!!
that stuff should be illegal!! my tank was literally a swamp.
now i can put a book on one end, and read it on the other side.. length wise!

I have read a bit on cycling but I am pritty sure it also depends a lot on your mechanical filtration. Mine cycled in 3 weeks because I had a big mechanical filter.
Corect me if im wrond.
Hope that helps.

use a cleanup crew of coraline turbo snails and astrea snails. Both eat algae, however coraline turbo snails are covered in coraline algae, a very strong durable purple tinted algae. This algae will block out the rest of the algae in your tank =)
