Cloudy water

My 4 month old seaclear system 2 is getting cloudy recently. I changed 50% of the water yesterday because it was getting cloudy and it's still cloudy. It's a 40 gl fish only tank with LR. The fish seem okay, and I changed the filter cloth as well, but I don't know why it's still cloudy. Is it because I moved some of the rocks around and it stirred up everything or what? Any help, please?

First of all, why did you do 50% water change??? That is quite a bit!!!!! Have you tested your water? You should run some tests ASAP. If you move around the rocks you may have stirred up some junk causing the water to go cloudy, but everything should settle down. Do your test and get back with us on it...Need to know Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, PH, Salinity, Calcium, etc.

I didn't measure all the stuff myself, but did take a sample to my fishstore, and found out that my ammonia was elevated, but everything else was okay. So, they suggested using some Cycle to see if it will clear in a few days or so. That's what I'm trying. Any other suggestions?

You disturb your tank by doing 50% water change. There's probably an died off of something in your tank to cause the Ammonia to go up or your having a mini-cycle due to large amount of water change IMO. If I'm wrong, someone correct me. Do you have a protein skimmer? :happyfish
