Cloudy Water

Anyone know how to clear up a 75 gal tank with a six line wrasse and a few inverts? I have a good protein skimmer and a homemade 20 gal sump with bio balls and sponges? Will a UV sterilizer help with this?

Well i have a UV sterilizer for my water bottles when i go backpacking and it only kills bacteria, but does not clear up the water. There for i have to use a pump as well. This is also true for aquariums. UV sterilizers are good for getting rid of Alge blooms and harmful bacteria. But they will also hurt your fish in the long run.

Well some of the good bacteria is killed and something with the water you should really read up on them. Most people have them only to turn on when algae blooms occur. I know people that have bought them and only owned them for a month before selling them online. I use to want one for my freshwater tank due to the algae blooms, but decided against it.

Occording to web searches like i said UV is only good for algae. But if a water change is not done after the first treatment dead algae that results can decay and this creates toxic organics that can affect the health of fish. Never start an algae treatment unless you are prepared to do water changes in-between treatments. In some cases the Ultra Violent Radiation can harm fish, but its rare. So I wouldnt waste your money on one.

I have used carbon on it before and I am trying it again and it's still doing nothing. I have seen nothing like this, the tank clears up around an hour before my lights go off, and when i see it in the morning it's cloudy again. I do have some various kinds of macro algae in the tank and it seems to be more cloudy around the clumps of macro... could this be causing it?

In the last week I have done 45 gal. worth of water changes. It clears up for about a day and then the same thing... I cannot figre this out. I can't have anything dead in there, I know that all I put is was some snails, 1 fish, and 2 shrimp... and i see them every day. The cloudiness does not seem to have any ill efects on anything, but I cannot imagine it's too healthy... All of my parameters are still showing fine too.... Ammonia and Nitrites 0, and Nitrate less than 10, and my temp is 78-80 deg
