I have 125 Gal that I started two weeks ago with 3 bags live sand, 3 bags crushed coral, 40 lbs base rock, 15lbs live rock, 9 damsels. Water was looking good, amonia went down to safe. Now my water looks like smoke is in it. Is that nitrates or nitrites or do I have a big problem. Tell me what to do. I want fish soon!! Can I??

well wanted to let you know that you might wnat to think about taking the Crushed coral out. Im currently trying to do it myself because the nitrates are always a little high. as for live rock i would suggest taht you have atleast 75 more pounds. As for fish i would wait on getting more. And thinking about taking some or all of the damsels out. IMO they are truely DAM sels. But thats up to you. You want to make sure you tank is fully cycled before you start putting in any more fish. or anything else.

I'm picking up 50lbs of base rock and 15-20lbs live rock thursday. I don't know how you would get cc out. Is there a net that lets the sand through and the cc stays?

you have top change out the cc thats your problem , if you mixed it with you ls you screwed , CC is making your water cloudy also , make sure you rinse your base rock really well

Run your filters and power heads, it will go away or settle. Some ppl say turn everything off and let it settle, but it will anyway with time. But since you have 9 damsels in there you need to keep evrything going. You could take it all back down, take the damsels back to the LFS and put in Live sand instead of the cc. Cycling with fish is an old outdated method, plus you will regret having 9 Satan's in your tank too. They are very aggressive fish or will get that way when older.

Yep, it'll settle in a few days. Rinsing it is a pain huh?? How'd you do it? I poked holes in the bag it came in and let water run forever and STILL it was clowdy.

I agree w/hot883 in regards to the damsels! As far as the CC, I've had it in my tank close to 1 year w/no nitrate problems. I to vaccum it though. If I'd known better, I would have put LS in even though I have FOLR

I have a problem with cloudy water. I do not have any cc but I found out that smoking clouds the water. We are not smokers but I do let others smoke in my house. I began noticing that after everytime someone was smoking in that room my tank would cloud up. Maybey this could be your problem??

Someone told me that anything we can smell in the air can also get into the tank. Burning a cigaret allows particals into the air and they can settle into the tank.
