Clown ate a guppy

While i was treating my pj cardinals to some live guppies....my clown darted over and ate the first one i put into the tank. It was a mouth full, i could see the guppy in his mouth for a while. So the question is, is this normal?

they are omnivores so a quick snack probably made it's day. mine will eat meat and shrimp, so a guppy isn't surprising.

My 1.5 inch GSM eats 1 or 2 every time i throw some in for my lion.
I was amazed the first time i seen it too.

i always heard its bad to feed your sw fish fw fish. someone told me is causes liver failure not totally sure on that but i know its bad to feed sw fish fw fish.

I also have heard this health warning to saltwater fish. and the same for continuously feeding brine shrimp. mysis shrimp is more highly recommended.

A continous diet of FW fish can cause a lot of problems but it is used a lot to get lions and such to eat. It can cause fat depostits in the fish that are harmful also. It is also a risk of transmitting FW diseases to SW fish.

Where I worked we raised variatus platties in salt water as feeder fish. They were fed marine fish food and vitamins. What is good to do in a warehouse situation and home may not be the same thing though. I'd dump them along with some rehydrated freeze dried food in, the combination of the 2 being the total amount of food needed.
I accidentally knocked the bucket into a tank of Yellow Tangs once and the went crazy over the Platies, I was pretty surprised.

what other options for live food, besides brine and mysis?

there is squid,crab,clam,krill,mussles, any meaty food that is from saltwater enviroment even ghost shrimp that has been acclimated to SW.
