Clown compatability

I have always been told to only have one clown fish in a tank, that they will fight. I am in the process of setting up my 50 gallon reef after a long move and am getting impatient i am afraid, I am thinking about getting a percula now to see how it does and then later adding a tomatoe. I am looking for suggestions.
Thanks all

If you add them at the same time it may help, that way neither one can really establish the tank first. BillyV had three different kinds in his reef, and never had a problem with them. He had a maroon, true perc, and a seabae. I've also heard you can't keep them together, but I have seen it work.

I have a tomato clown in my tank now along with a clown trigger and a tang. The tomato was here before the others buy even so they get along fine. I am assuming from what I have read and learned so far (also my experience with them) if you introduce them 1 by 1 the newer species has to be a tad smaller. Whe I first started I tossed them all in at the same time and it worked out fairly well. :)

I have always been told that you can only add like with like but have seen exceptions.
If you add them at the same time(or pretty close to the same time) it may work for you.
It really depends on the personality of the fish. I have tried to add regular percula with it's own and the fish not be accepted, however I believe it is b/c they did not want to share thier sebae. If you can, this worked for me, I introduced new clown fish with a new sebae that way no one had to share. Hope I helped.
