clown died on me....

Had a clown die on me this morning, woke up and he was stuck to the filter...he looked sick since i brought him home but not the point....I did a water change today and my nitrates and nitrites were still high about an hour later....how long does it take for them to go down

Nitrates will not go down much except with water changes. Nitrites will go down over a couple days.
Can you list the levels you are seeing?
IMO, if your ammonia is still reading nil, you'll be fine. It's not likely that anything bad will happen provided you removed the body relatively quickly (<12hrs), which it sounds like you did.

if your trites and trates are high, your amonia will likely spike. what else do you have in your tank? you are going to need to monitor your water quality verrrry closely
