I posted about this in the clownfish thread and got no help. I have looked around and looked at the pictures in this thread and searched for information but have turned up nothing. All my test turn out good, ph 8.4 nitrates 0 ammonia 0 nitrites 0. The clown fish looks alright but for the last almost two weeks has just been swimming in the corner where the current is strong. I have another clown and one yellow tail damsel in the tank, and they are both doing fine. It is a fiffty five gallon tank with an over flow and a sump. I have activated carbon, blue bio balls, and filter media in the sump. I called my LFS and they said try a fresh water dip for five minutes, so i tried that and when i put him back in he would be like normal then five minutes later he would return to the same behavior. I can not figure out what is going on. PLEASE HELP!!!

Nick, is there any reason you think this clown may be sick? I also have a clown, and two yellowtail damsels in a 55. He swims in the corner all the time and acts scared if anyone comes real close to the tank. I just put a plant in today that is long and flowing with a large base ( kind of an anenome effect for him) He may just need something to hide in. They both may be males, in which case they won't pair up (obviously) I wouldn't stress if you don't see anything wrong with him. He may just need a territory for himself. Also stop the fresh water dips, they mostly just stress the fish out!

Yes, I agree, definitely stop doing the freshwater dips. This is stressing the fish out for no reason. It may just be a strange little quirk about this fish. If you do not see any parasite, a freshwater dip has NO purpose.
Is he still eating normally?

I personally have not seen him eat. That is one of my biggest fears is that he is going to starve in his little corner. I do not really see the other fish messing with him, but should i maybe try getting rid of the yellow tail?? The fish has not always acted like this he use to swim around just like the other clown fish that i have.
Thank you
Nick

Hi Nick
How long have you had this particular clownfish? How long has it been since you last saw him eat? What foods are you offering? Try to offer several different types of food, soaked in vitamins and garlic.
Definately stop the fresh water dips and try to give him some space. Dont scare the fish by trying to catch him in a net or anything. Hopefully he will start to eat again. Maybe he just prefers that spot in the tank. Does he have anything to host in there?
