I would like to hear from the people that have a clown goby, what do they eat and do you find them to be hard fish to care for?
Do they hide alot?
Will they eat mushrooms?

They are easy to care for, mine always ate any food, and was always perched inside a coral. I don't know any fish that will eat a mushroom. They will tear up some sps though.

Because of the size will they stand up for themselves if another fish were to pick on it?
I also read that they have a slime coat on their bodies that protects them from predators is this true?
Thanks for the info......

I did have a damsel that bothered one that I had..probably because he was the only little guy he could pick on.
He would send the poor thing over the overflow..it was unfortunately the reason for his death. Yes gobies do posess a good thick slime coat. They are wiley little guys..the yellows stay out and are more visible in my experience. The greens are cool, and are supposedly safer around sps.My last one was a yellow that I had to catch because he was damaging my sps and keeping the polyps from extending.

The only problem I have is my fuzzy dwarf lionfish. She has never tried to bother anything in the tank but one never knows. I do not feed live fish nor has she been fed live fish. I would love to add a punch of yellow color to my tank and these little guys are so cute I thought it might be what I need. What do you think?

Hmm..that's tough.I am not going to say do it..and then a week later we are saying how sorry we are because your CG was eaten by your lion.I considered a fuzzy for my 65 semi-aggressive tank at one time.I was concerned he might eventually eat my freidmani psuedochromis,so I decided against it.{ and they are substantially bigger than a clown goby} I guess in the end it is your choice.I think clown gobies do best when they have corals such as montipora capricornis to hide in.

I love my clown goby. I have it in a tank with a yellow tang and a maroon clown fish. He is always perching on my hammer coral or my zoos. He is so easy to take care of. After two days, he was out and I never see him hide. He perches in plain site. I am convinced that this fish has the most personality of any fish I have seen yet. i have two yellow clown gobies. One is in my 6gallon, the other is in my 29gallon
P.S. I know the tank is too small for my little yellow tang. i am working on that. I have another tank already and I am waiting for a stand. So back off tang police. HE He. just had to throw that in.

I have a citron clown goby and he will eat just about anything I put in the tank. He usually just perches and hangs out where ever. Sometimes he will even perch on the glass walls of the tank. Mine never hides. He is alway perched somewhere waiting on a piece of food. None of my other fish have ever shown aggression towards him. He seems to be a hardy fish that does his own thing.

If it's just the yellow color you are after, perhaps a yellow watchman, yellow assessor, or midas blenny might be a better choice simply because they are larger. Great pics everyone.

Now I really want one. Love that green one too. But we don't have alot of selection here as everything is shipped in and we just have to go with what we can get. I have never seen the green one but sure do like it. We have lots of the yellow ones here, but I am just holding off to see what you all said and what my LFS says, she will not just sell anything as she does not want customers to come back saying that she gives bad advice. She her self has 3 salt tanks at home and then the ones in the store.
Thanks again....

I have the brown, yellow and green clown gobys, and of them all I htink the green is the shyest. Its hard to see its eyes as they blend right in with the stripe they are located in.......My green stays in a toadstool leather, the yellow likes to stay perched on the top of the heater, and the brown likes to lay on the shrooms.....I feed mine brine shrimp, both frozen as well as freshly hatched, and mysid. I also feed em hikari S pellets.....They are a good sized fish for pico tanks.
