Can anyone please tell me if my two clowns are percs or Ocellaris?
What is the difference between these two types of clowns?
Sorry for the pic

reefeel, what would make you think they are two different ones?
Just curious, here is another not so great pic.

After seeing the second picture I believe the are both ocellaris. You can somewhat tell which are which by the vibrance of the orange. I thought the other might be a perc cause his belly eas more of a brighter oranger.

reefeel, the smaller one is definatley alot more brighter orange than the other one. The pics don't do them justice at all. Their markings are identical though but the only difference is the brighter orange.
When you say they are ocellaris is this not a type of perc?
There is "true" perc and "false" percs do they not both fall into the catagory of "ocellaris percs"?
This is confusing, I am just wanting to understand it better. When I got them at the store they are just sold as Percula clowns.

Percula and ocellaris are two different species of clownfish. Ocellaris are also known as false pers, and are often misnamed as percula in many LFS.

Thank you all for your replies. This clears things up a bit for me now. I would say that both mine are the ocellaris as I have never seen any of our stores here have the True Percs and if they did they would not be selling them for 19.99 CDN This is what we pay for our clowns here, the maroons being a bit higher though in price.
Either way I just love these little fish, I am so glad that I got rid of my tomato clown as much as I love it and the camelback shrimp for sure, I don't miss that critter at all
I would like to know something though, since putting these two new clowns in my tank they had a hay day eating all my pods. I thought they were going to burst the first day. I only see the odd one now and boy do they ever keep them cleaned up, constantly picking at the rock crevices. I don't see the pods swimming around anymore like I did. I had thousands of them before.
They are two good tank cleaners these two fish, my tomato never ate a one of these pods and the same for my shrimp. I guess it is okay that they clean these things up hey?
Debbie :cheer:
