You bought a fish and you don`t know what or when to feed it ? I highly suggest doing some homework before purchasing something you don`t know how to take care of .

as with all Acanthurus spp, greens will be the most important. you might have to feed some mysis shrimp to get the fish to eat though. once eating i would do nori on a clip at least once a day along with mysis and formula 1 and 2 frozen.

I think dawman in his own way was saying Please do some research before the purchase there are alot of animals that are being sold in the hobby that have special needs or are very difficult to care for. and without doing research first you could get into the situation of a bad fish purchase that could cause massive problems later on.

A bit harsh, but there is an underlying truth to the repsonse. Clown tangs are a difficult fish and most don't fare well in captivity in spite of our best efforts. If this fish is going in the 65 gallon tank you have listed in your profile, the odds of keeping it alive are further decreased. A tank in the range of 200+ gallons with lots of flow is a more suitable environment.

I don`t see it harsh at all . I asked a question and gave a suggestion . Didn`t realize there were so many sensitive people here .

Dear hobbyist , In order for you to keep a Clown Tang you'll need richly oxygenated water . I brought my clown tang almost a year ago and I feed it spiralina, brine shrimp,Hilkari pellets, dried sea weed, and even formula one and it has grown to nearly 6".It can be aggressive towards other tangs though . Excellent fish !

I thought you were right on and I didn't see what you said as harsh at all. Clown tangs are extremely hard fish to maintain over a long period of time and I find it concerning that someone would buy this amazing fish with out doing enough research to know what it eats.
I wonder what size tank he has the tang in? According to his profile he has a 65 gallon which is wayyyy to small...hope that's old info and he has something much larger now.

Dear Hobbyist, my clown tang lives in my 150 gallon aquarium .And by the way , I too was told that this fish was for experts only, but i defied the odds . You will have fun with this fish. Its colorful ,aggressive at times ,and its head changes to a dark gray color when its upset . Have fun!

Pristine water, lots of oxygen, lots of greens,Formula II, and a lot of luck. I think this is one of THE most difficult fish to keep; usually recommended for "experts" only. I hope you do well with this fish; but if he doesn't make it, don't beat yourself up...just learn and do research before you buy. Very few of us haven't made a big mistake or two; just don't make the same one twice. I don't know where you bought the fish; but if it was from a lfs, you should be able to trust them---but, very often, you can't.

I ask my lfs if this fish is ok for my tank size (65) . I didn't think noting of it because he look like a cool fish . Just been doing this hobby a little over a year. Sorry for being jumpy. I thought i can trust him. Mybe i ll have to buy a bigger tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If he said the clown tang is ok for a 65gallon then I'd take his advise with a grain of salt. I am in no means part of the tang police, I think some tangs are fine in a 65 gallon but not this tang. I have wanted to get a clown tang for a long time for my 125 sps system but have been hesistant because I don't feed enough to support this fish and I don't think my tank is large enough.

It's obvious you can not trust your LFS. Anyone with even a bit of knowledge would know this is not the right fish for your size tank He was just going for the sale and didn't care about you or the fish just your money.
