I have a clown Tang that looks like he is getting skinny and skinner. I have algae sheets, veggie rounds, frozen brine shrimp, and omega one marine flakes. what could be happening? He is in a 75 gal with a 1200 power head for water flow a 1500 return pump in my sump with a skimmer in the sump. tank mates are 2 small false clowns, a coral beauty, a foxface, 1 skunk cleaner, 1 fire shrimp, 2 peppermint shrimp,3 hermit crabs, and 3 turbo snails. A lot of corals and about 150 lb LR. I see him eating but he is picky. Everything else is fine and my water is fine.

This fish has an extremely high morality rate and the vast majority die--it's one of the more difficult fish to keep long term. Picking at live rock does not mean the fish is eating, I have a lavender tang that picks at my rock all day but there is nothing there for him to eat--it's what tangs do. I'd also try and see if you can get it to eat krill to go with the algae sheets.

Also, the amount of algae growth you'll get on what live rock you can squeeze into a 75g won't support a clown tang, imo. It's also too small, so it might just be stressed from the lack of swimming room. I'd recommend finding a new, much bigger, home for the fish. At least a 150g (6' long) tank.

try some frozen formula one and large nori sheets....
thaw out the frozen food in a little cup with "garlic guard" or such this may entice him to eat more.

misis shrimp almost allwayz works believe it or not
good luck ..........(ps don't get rid of him cuz then the stress will kill him try very hard to do what u can 2 help him that's what this hobby is about trial and error ..) it's all a learning exp.that will help u with fish in future

Dear hobbyist , I presently have a Clown Tang that I brought at 2.5",that was over a year ago. Now its almost 6.5". Its in my 150 gallon aquarium ,and i feed it green sea weed ,marine cuisine , formula one , marine A ,and spiralina flakes .It eats well and as it grows larger , its getting more aggressive . But oh what a beautiful fish to have in your aquarium.

I didn't know he would get so big when i got him. he is only about 1 1/2 inches right now.
If he gets back to being himself I will take him back to the LFS and trade it back. I know he wouldnt make it to take him back now. Also I have started feeding him out of my fingers and he is eating better. Thanks a lot to all
