i understand that this fish is not "reef safe" but what kind of reef safe is it, is it not reef safe because it eats inverts, or is it not reef safe because it eats corals, or a combination of the two? And has anyone ever kept one in a reef before without any adverse effects? Thanx in advance for the help

As far as I know it is not reef safe because it will eventually eat / kill everything. Clown Triggers tend to be one of the most aggresive triggers. When it is small it maybe ok but as it grows and starts to figure out it can kill things it will continue to do so. Others may have other opinions on this fish but I belive it is best suited for a tank by itself. There are many other fish though that are very colorful that are better for a reef tank. It depends on size and what exactly you are keeping in the tank.

Another thing to think of beside the appetite of CT's, they love to redecorate their surroundings. So they might not eat your corals, but they can cause a lot of damage by dropping them or dropping rocks onto them.

I agree w/ My Way. I've wanted triggers in my reef but won't because they will nip a coral, and cause damage because they have some big chompers. I think anything that moves they'll go after. If they don't eat the coral, eventually it can get stressed out enough to where it dies.
