Clown Trigger

hey guys/gals I got a quick question. My LFS has a little under 2 inch clown trigger for 30 dollars. I mean 30 dollars seems like a steal to me. Also I saw him eat Brine Shrimp, so he is eating. They just got the guy in and I asked a buddy of mine to hold it at that price and he said he would. My question is at that size will that little guy be a terror in a tank with tangs and clowns? I thought that when clown triggers are small they are not that aggressive. Anyone have any ideas??? Thanks

in all honesty, it depends on the individual fish. we have one at the store i work at with damsels a couple of cinnamon clowns and a flame hawkfish, and he just swims around like it doesn't phase him at all

He is in a tank with 3 clowns and is tha smallest. All at this point I have seen him do is swim. Not even trying to nip at one of the clowns and one is as small as him. So is this a gamble? 30 bucks seems like a big time steal for me anyways.

They are cute and almost cuddly at that size.
BUT, they get HUGE and with growth they become terrors. Just because at 1" they are nice, does not mean they will cause BIG problems in a short time. What size tank will you have in a year? What will you do with it when it grows?
The behavior at this size is in NO WAY representative of the overall personality of this fish.
I strongly discourage purchase of this fish (or SALE of this fish) at this small, frankly misleading, size. It is done with several fish, and it is almost a crime, IMO (panther groupers, emperor snappers for example).

I have a 3" one and he picks on my 5" Porcupine puffer. The puffer is so scared of him that he stay near the top of the tank to get away from the trigger. He is a bully!

O I have upgraded since then I now have 110 gal. I noticed him there and at that price in that small of a tank with clowns I figure it would be awhile before he became a lil terror

I also just found a small clown, and he is cute. But I paid $59. I think mine is about 3.5 inches. Hes as big as my damsels, and they push him around, for now. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. :happyfish
