Clown Triggerfish

Hi Guys,
How fast does a Clown Triggerfish grow. Lets say if I got one 2" would it be 4" in a year or more? Would it get along with a Saddled Toby Puffer?
Thanks

Never owned a CT but know people who have, and would say he'd be more like 6+ inches in that time frame. Clown triggers being highly aggressive as well as the Undulates could live in harmony forever with the Toby, live in harmony for months to years and then kill the Toby out've the blue, or just kill the Toby shortly thereafter being in the tank. Better tankmates for fish as these are more like big tough groupers, big Angels, big aggressive Tangs, Hawkfish, and puffers of the large genera.

What are you feeding him?

If "well" fed and often, they grow fast. Read here:

What's the smallest tank size one of these would be comfortable in? How much live rock do they prefer? Could you keep a large softball sized crab or a huge lobster with one?
Thanks!

75G minimum for a Clown Trigger but they can be VERY AGGRESIVE be careful when selecting tankmates
You don't want any $$$$$ mishaps

I was thinking of getting a species only tank of 125g with about 100lbs of LR; would this be enough for its entire life by itself?

135GL would do for a long time. A guy I know who has had CT's off and on for 20 years says once fully grown any tank in the 8' length keeps them happy. The info from the edited link was Clown Trigger owners personal experience with these guys. The average growth seemed to be 7inches in an 18 month span.

clown triggers really dont grow that fast. I've always had a clown trigger in my agressive tank up until a coupla months ago.. I'd say they grown an average of 1-2 inches a year. But keep in mind that they plump up pretty good so they look larger than they are.

My fish friends Clowns must be on roids as they grow 4-6 times more rapid than yours. He had one that grew over six inches in twelve months, and another guy had one grow nine inches in the same time frame. How big is your tank? What tankmates are with the CT? And how often and what do you feed out've curiousity? Thx

Everyone makes clown triggers out to be terrors, we however DISAGREE (sorry guys). We have owned 2 in our past. The first one was 2 inches and our grouper and harliqui9n tusk wanted to have him for lunch...however our blue throat trigger wouldnt have any of it died due to...die off from live rock due to tank change (rookie mistake
). The second one we had, was SUBMISSIVE to a lemonpeel angel?!?!?!? Right now we have a 125 reef tank and to tell you the truth, I think it is the luck of the draw!!! We honestly havent had a problem w/ clwon triggers being aggressive and killing other fish!!! We had a pink tail trigger that was suppose to be so "docile" and it beat the living s*%& out of EVERYTHING including clown trigger. liek a guy i know says, "its a crap shoot" either he will be docile or totally aggressive.

seannmelly- How long did you have the clown triggers? Were they mature or juveniles?
It can be hit or miss on this trigger, others have had them for a few years trouble free, in larger tanks. Most Juvenile clown triggers can even be around corals if fed right, it is when they start to mature that this fish can change. They are territorial and like to guard large territories, so the larger the fish the larger the territory.
IMO - this is a misunderstood trigger that gets a bad rap for being placed in conditions that do not meet the needs of this trigger.
The Pinktail & Niger are two triggers I always say Hit or miss and it will depend on the fish. They are medium aggressives, I have read many stories like this:
"We had a pink tail trigger that was suppose to be so "docile" and it beat the living s*%& out of EVERYTHING including clown trigger."
I have had my Pinktail for a few years, at one point I had it with my Clown fish & Chromis trouble free, I have never had a problem with my trigger but still caution people on the behavior of this fish ......

The first one was a juvi really still a baby had it for 6 months and the second one was matured 5inches prolly had that one 5 months. I COMPLETELY agree w/ you on its hit or miss w/ the clown and pinktail trigger. i was trying to make the point that it is hit or miss w/ some triggers and that clowns arent as nasty as alot ppl think they are.
