My Percula clown won't go anywhere near the long-tenticle anemone I purchased for him. Any ideas or suggestions?

It is hit or miss when trying get clowns to host. Give them time. It could take a few days, weeks, months or it may never host. Welcome to the boards

My perc still won't go near my LTA. A very knowledgable person at my LFS said that chances of him hosting are slim. Only because he's a tank raised false perc and has probably never seen an anemone before. He told me to allow about a month to see if it will host, afterwards I can either trade the LTA in for something or just continue on with what I'm doing.

Tie the perc down to the anenome!

Most clowns dont host anenomies in home aquariums. Dont get me wrong people have gotten their clowns to but, clowns are picky.

Tried the picture on the glass for about a month and change with no luck.
Before the leak ,I got them to hosting by feeding the anemone only then the fish had to wait for the fall off or get in there. Slow but it worked.

I have a bta for my false percs and they have never hosted it but I did get a porcelain crab which host anemones for protection in the wild and it jumped in there after about 2 hours and I wouldn't be able to get it out unless I took the anemone out too. They hold on to them with their little sharp "feet" and do NOT ever let go. They also protect them. So its something to think about if you want to see something host. They are pretty cheap too. Around 7 dollars or so.

every clown i have owned (2 false and 2 true percs) absolutely love/loved my sabae anemone. its hit or miss...and i might have just been lucky. im not saying this would work but if you really want your clown to host an anemone you could try a sabae because i have had real good luck with mine.

be careful what you wish for.....
....I had a similar post about 1.5 years ago and let me tell you, once my clowns figured out that they could host, they never left my green BTA and the anenome went from huge to nearly dead in a week. In fact, I can hardly believe it didn't die! They rubbed in it so much it just closed up. I moved it to a corner of my tank and it's been well over a year and it still isn't up to the size it was. However, during that time the clowns still have hosted it, just a lot more gently. I think they have figured out the mutual benefit and in another 6 months, the anenome will probably be back to the size of day 1. Just one story to illustrate the time it might take. All the same, I hope yours does host, it's a pretty cool thing to watch in your living room. Good luck.
