So i went to sleep with both of my new clownfish doing fine , i woke up this morning to 1 clownfish , i looked all over for the other one , and i eventually found him dead inbetween the upper part of a rock , the other fish isnt showing any signs of stress and is eating , so im wondering what happened , all of my levels are fine , would i notice a mantis during my cycle or would he only get excited when fish are put in the tank , it looked like the clownfish had a tiny tiny stab on his belly but i couldnt be positvie , he wasnt torn apart or anything either

If it was a mantis it would have eaten the fish. They kill fish for food so I wouldn't count on that as a possibility. Did you buy these two fish as a pair? How did you acclimate them? What are your water paramaters?

Well, maybe if you didn't sleep with the clownfish...lol, j/k
Sorry about your loss.

Sometimes fish just die. If your other clown is fine, maybe the deceased had a sickness, or something previous to you purchasing it. It is also possible that they fought, clownfish can be pretty territorial. Is the deceased smaller or bigger than the living?

35 NITRATE is pretty dang high. That is the only thing I see out of what you've listed for water parameters. It is possible there was a scuffle during the night between the two fish if they are not a pair.

yeah they were being a bit agressive with each other , i also bought them aqua cultered so i payed more , i brought it to lees feed and they gave me credit , after they tested my water , they normally dont do that on freshwater , but they were suprised because it was aqua cultered , on the other hand the other is doing awesome still active and eating so thats a plus ,
yeah i think it was the smaller one that died ..
35 is high , but it is still safe , i had that thought to , LFS said 35 is fine if you drip which i did
Jambi0n ***** folsom is getting some purple firefish in on thursday , $15 , that will be just intime for me to add more fish

So Sorry "O". They are great fish. Some fish are just 1 more move away from death. Doesn't help any, but still. On a better, HAPPIER note; I got some zoos in today. Happy Happy Happy.

nitrates do matter, just not as much as nitrites. I'd work on lowering the nitrates, it's just not really urgent.
