Hey Guys/Gals,
I had a question that came up yesterday between my gf and myself and hopefully someone here has the answer...
When you pair clownfish you pick two of the same species and introduce them to your tank at the same time in the hopes that their ability to change gender will allow them to pair (or at least that is what I have been lead to believe). Or you pick a existing pair and introduce them.
I have been toying with the idea of a tank upgrade (which would mean new rockwork, fish list ect) but I want to keep my current clownfish and get him a mate. I have been told this is not possible (or too difficult on several occasions), but I just don't see the overwhelming difference of picking up 2 clownfish that could have been caught anywhere and introducing them to a tank... as opposed to changing the whole environment and introducing two fish that come from two different tanks at the same time?
Isn't that essentially the same thing pet stores do all the time when they sell two percs to a customer that have been sitting in their tank for a couple of days?
I'm not trying to cause a problem here I'd just like the logic as too why its difficult to pair up a clown thats in your tank... when really it seems like the species was made to find a mate in the harshest of situations.
thanks again
