Clownfish Pairing question?

Hey Guys/Gals,
I had a question that came up yesterday between my gf and myself and hopefully someone here has the answer...
When you pair clownfish you pick two of the same species and introduce them to your tank at the same time in the hopes that their ability to change gender will allow them to pair (or at least that is what I have been lead to believe). Or you pick a existing pair and introduce them.
I have been toying with the idea of a tank upgrade (which would mean new rockwork, fish list ect) but I want to keep my current clownfish and get him a mate. I have been told this is not possible (or too difficult on several occasions), but I just don't see the overwhelming difference of picking up 2 clownfish that could have been caught anywhere and introducing them to a tank... as opposed to changing the whole environment and introducing two fish that come from two different tanks at the same time?
Isn't that essentially the same thing pet stores do all the time when they sell two percs to a customer that have been sitting in their tank for a couple of days?
I'm not trying to cause a problem here I'd just like the logic as too why its difficult to pair up a clown thats in your tank... when really it seems like the species was made to find a mate in the harshest of situations.
thanks again

i think what your looking for is this
clown are not hard to pair up all clowns will pair its just a matter of time!!!
its always better to get 1 clown bigger and from a different tank becouse this will reduce the stress lvl in your tank for all other fish!!! less fighting shorter mate time
this in imo only i do have clowns and i have never had a problem yet :)
good luck

This gets a little complicated if you want a breeding pair.
I found this on another forum, hope its ok to post the link here:

gives alot of info on clown gender role, especially when one clown is kept alone. ***)

The Clown you have now is most likely already a female. Best to select a mate from a group of the same species and pick one of the smaller ones from that group.

Thats what I figured... I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't just being dillusional.
So it seems like the consensous is that it is possible as long as I'm alright with the possiblity of a long period of time before they become a mated pair. I actually don't care if they physically mate I just want to have two clowns in the same tank who don't try to rip each others throats out every other min.
Thank you for supporting my logic with some sound experience that sorta confirms it... and in celebration its peanutbutterjellytime
