Clowns and BTA

The clowns (2 true percs) were the first to go into my tank when it was ready. That was back in July. In the last two weeks I have added a BTA and was wondering if they will eventually go to it.
I was told that clowns don't need anenomes to live but anenomes need clowns to live...
Don't know how true that is but thought I would ask.
BTW, the clowns have not taken to any host in my tank since the beginning.

For the programmers out there:
Percs NEQ BTA
In english, percs and BTA are NOT natural buddies. For percs you will need a carpet for the best chance (normally). If they are tank raised, remember, they have never seen an anemone before !!!
Anemones do NOT need clowns, but most acclimatize better with them there.

So I get home today and check the tank and low and behold I see my clowns playing in the anenome! I was pretty stoked but one thing I noticed, the smaller clown will make his way through and rapidly swish his tail through the anenome. Why do they do this?

I introduced a green bubble tips anemone two days ago, and my 3 TR false clowns don't go near it during the day when the lights are on, but by night time they will fight each other to try to get in the anemone...should I get another one, maybe two more anemone so they won't fight?

You want the craziest meeting in the world. My perc met a condi a few months back and they are inseperable. Who would of thought, an atlantic anenome and an Indo-Pacific fish.

Hey All,
The trueth is the clowns caneither except or ignore any and all anenomies, its in their nature. There is a type of anenomie out there which will pretend to like the clowns but when the time is right...it could kill the fish, I dont remember the name of that anenome. I also know if you have pulsing Xenia they will go for that as well, instead of an anenome. its an option!
I just bought 2 young Ocellaris Perculas, I want the xenia...to me it just looks nicer. I must say your pics "rich1515" look really nice of your tank...Im impressed! My lil fish are at about the 1" in length. I got them as a pair and made sure they were paired before I bought them.
See Ya,

i have also seen that it does take some time for clowns to acclimate to the anemone. i saw a show which presented the case that clowns actually get a slime coating from rubbing along the tentacles of the anemone so that it wont sting them. then they took that clown and wiped off the bottom of it with a cloth and the anemone stung it and ate it. dont know how true just thought it was interesting

I have only been in this hobby/job for five months but it has become such an addiction. Hopefully in March I will start a 125!

Rich your tank is awesome! I noticed you are in Edmond and I've probably already asked but where do you shop locally? If you said I missed it, how big is that tank? I have a tomato clown that I didn't know was the most aggresive clown so I can't add anymore but my bta split about 9 months ago and it gets in both of them. I do think that your clown is shaking it's tail in the anenome to either clean something out (like if it's near sand they will fan the sand with their tail) or getting used to it. My husband says our clown loves both anenomes for the buzz he gets every time he jumps in;)

Thanks! I stick with one shop that is in Edmond called Aquarium Tropical Fish & Supply -- LeighAnne is awesome and is the reason that my tank looks even half as good as I think it does. I have done some shopping with The Reef Shop and Josette's but I have only bought one thing from each store. Where are you located? Maybe we could trade some items!
