I just got a mated pair of clowns and a new bubble tip. the clowns were not "tank raised" but they will not go near the bubble tip. If they are "tank raised" will they eventually go to the bubble tip or am I wasting my time. The fish and bubble have been in the tank for 5 days now.

I have had clownfish for many years, and also anemones...this year a few months ago they FINALLY decided to host an anemone. Before that they have hosted coral and wallowed it to death, and the intake/output tubes of the filter. You just never know and you can't do a thing about it.

Welcome to SWF
I also have a BTA, and my clowns also host filter tubes

Just be patient, but also remember...sometimes they host...sometimes they don't

I guess I have always been super lucky. I have never had clowns that didn't host their anemone.
But, hosting isn't all it's cracked up to be. Once the clowns deem the home theirs, they feed it. Anything they can pick up becomes something to feed to their nem. This included, hermit crabs, other fish, your favorite star fish, etc.
They also turn into the pit bulls of the aquarium. Because you are constantly preforming rescues pulling things out of the nem, you are also getting bit, which even if they don't get you good, I still jerk and get burnt on the lights.
It is rather fun to turn a powerhead or two and create the tsunami and blast the clowns right out of their happy home.

Hey, I haven't exactly seen those anemones offering room service meals like the clowns do for the anemones! I beg to differ at who is really the "host".

I think it's more on the parasite level...The clownfish finds it's home in the safety of the anemone...the anemone has no say or defense. I have had clowns wallow coral to death. So it's my opinion that the clown fish are like parasites...they just kind of claim their spot.

Ok, so we have this trick around here. Tried and it truly works. It may be too late to catch the clownfish and move the anemone but... If you can, put the anemone in a 5 gallon bucket with about 6 inches of water in it. Put the clowns in and wait 2...3 hours if necessary. They go into it and then never leave 100% of the time. Then reintroduce them to the aquarium. Situate the anemone, then release the clowns by net ~directly into the anemone. This works with wild or aquacultured clowns. I have done it, I have seen it done, and when I get feedback it works for everyone else too. Good luck!

Ha! How funny! That's kind of the route that I take because I acclimate my clowns with the anemone that I want them to call theirs. I never really thought about it actually but all of my clowns readily accept the homes I have chosen for them. I have been puzzled by those that try so hard and their clowns won't go near the anemone!

I have tank bred clowns and they readily went to the anemone from the moment it was placed in the tank. I never had to coax them to go near the anemone.

Isn't it just easier to say the clown hosted the overflow tube than it is to say the overflow tube hosts my clownfish?
Maybe not LOL
