CLOWNS

Has anyone noticed how whenever anybody posts about clownfish there are at least 5 posts or more? I think this fish is the fish that got most of us into the hobby.

i totally agree. they see the pics of clowns in their anemones and they just have to have one. they are also a very good beginner fish, good color, many species, and an all around cool fish. clowns are great. they were probably the first fish imported for the saltwater hobby(can anyone confirm this?). well i love clowns, and so do most other saltwater hobbists. just wondering what is everyone's favorite clown species? mine would have to be tomatoes, especially a big one with some blue on him. later, bo

Since a number of clowns can be bred they tend to show up more and the prices are right for such pretty fish. My favorite would be the Maroon followed by the Percula.

I like the maroon's too. Yeah they see a clownfish with an anemone and then want the anemone too. Sometimes blindley they go out buy the tank fish ect.. in one day and then when it dies they figure it isn't there hobby. But only if they were more informed the death would have never occured.

Remember me telling you hermit that I originally got my tank for clowns. You know I have a pair lined up for my 75.

Ya gotta love clowns! They're hardy, cute, never get sick, colorful, not too big, will eat just about anything, and will get along with just about anything! My seabea is the best! :)

And they are hardy enough to be able to cycle the tank with them. That way you don't have to worry about damsels getting territorial.

I have a 30 gal tank with two yellow tail damsels and want to add a clown which will probably be the last fish I add.I dont want to get rid of the damsels.
My question is what would be a more aggresive clown to add?I want a more aggresive one so It will hold its own if the damsels get out of hand.I was thinking of a maroon.I would also prefer a tank raised one as I wont have an anemone and would like to have a fish that wasnt taken from an enviroment where it had one.Are there tank raised maroons readily available?I know percs are probably the most commonly found tank raised but I fear there a little too docile. What do you all think?

A couple of months ago I bought a 55 gal oceanic for 100.00 that the owners had neglected so long that hair and bubble algae had totally over run it......it came with 2 tank raisied perculas.......well I gotta tell ya those 2 are so happy to have a clean maintained environment that they literally come to the glass and dance for me every time I get near....they are just awesome....tons of personality............personally it was worth 100.00 just to save these 2 from certain death.........also got a tomato in my reef..........clowns are just KEWL........

Hey NMReef,
That is a nice story. I have 2 reasons to like you now. First you saved the clowns, second you were raised Arizona.
:D

I think maroon clowns are dead cute.
My small one sleeps on his side which is really funny to watch. Never thought a fish could sleep on its side. LOL.
