I was wondering if anyone in the Florida area collects there own live rock? if so where?
i was wondering this because i know there are some companies that sell rock that they say is collected in Florida waters.
i also wonder if their are any laws about this?

yea, i think it is REEEEAAALLLLY ILLEGAL! My mom heard in the news about someone getting busted for a lot of it, but i'm sure you can get in trouble for even a few pounds!

i could be verry wrong but i bet you need to obtain a special license, and permit to collect it. thats my best bet. and if thats the case i bet it is expensive so that only larger companies that sell a lot of it can collect it.

try the BLM for any permits. In some states rock can be taken for certain purposes. But I live in the high desert so I don't know about oceans.

i was in Hawaii last week, and looked into trying to collect rock, fish, corals, and inverts to overnight to myself when i left. the laws there are really strict. if you get caught with one fish, its a $500 fine and up to 5 years in jail.
but if you find a good place in the gulf let me know...
