college students--do you not hate the price of textbooks?!?

textbooks have got to be one of the highest costs college students pay immediately every semester. so after we spend $150 on a book, we sell it back for a measly 10ish %, and the bookstore sells it again used for $100. it's ridiculous. it's why i still have several of my last semester textbooks still in my closet! hoping someone will come along and give me $50 a piece for them. stupid stupid stupid!!!

That was my biggest beef in college. Plus, the used books were always gone so most of us had to fork over the full price.

yea... somewhere around 3-400 bucks sounds right to what my parents paid for last semester... this semester i am sharing books w/ a girl down the hall, luckily our math book was the same... oh and i traded two books for the one that we are using for macroeconomics, we are using a business law book that belongs to another girl in our hall, we didn't buy a book for microeconomics, we were told we wouldn't use it anyways. my golf class doesn't need a book... so that leaves my big expenditure on books this semester...
$15 for my intro to philosophy book! lol :hilarious

Text book prices sicken me. I don't sell them back either. I'd rather have the book on the shelf, impressing my company than making the stupid bookstore near my school rich :p

I always hated getting ripped by the bookstores and ended up keeping most my books. I used to love when they would sell you a full price book knowing they weren't going to use them the next semester.
The last school I went to had an $80.00 textbook rental fee per semester. So the books were free unless you didn't return them.

BigB....did you go to school in STL or ILL ???
BTW....the last 2 semesters in school, I kept my books, didn't have time to return them.
Bluelagoon....very resourseful on your book sharing...I wish I would have had someone to share my books.....good thinking..

The price of textbooks is RIDICULOUS!! On top of the exorbitant prices that the bookstores charge, they change to "new editions" every few semesters to make sure that you don't save *too* much money by using an older book or getting one from a friend who had it the semester before. Please, tell me that algebra or biology changes so much from year to year that they need to revise the book to accomodate the changes? NOT! What, did they suddenly discover a third kidney or a second pancreas???

Stick it to you, any way they can. My favorite was when you were forced to pay $120 for a book that the prof. only opened three times all semester.
Alibris
has a nice textbook exchange. Can save a ton of money, and book-rate shipping saves even more money.

Here in Canada they are beginning to put textbooks online, free of charge, if you pay for the class you get the textbook. No carrying around 50lbs of books, no standing in lineups, no worrying about old books after. These classes are the same price as any other aswell. Hopefully in a couple years ALL my classes textbooks will be online.

You don't have to be a college student to hate the prices of books! I'm the paying parent of the college student!

yeah last semester they wanted me to spend 250 on one book, then i had to spend 25 for the lab manual, and 25 for the lecture notes. the TA told me to look all the info up on the internet and i did. I got a B+ so just FYI for all you out there. oh i bought everything but the book for 250.

I sometimes use half.com for used books. My daughter saved a ton buying and selling her books online. Check it out, could save a lot.
