color changing stellatus?

yeah just got him today... he is way cool... he is light brown with dark brown spots when no one is looking (peeked in the bucket and saw him like that) and then he changed back to brown with dark spots when he became aware of my presence? lol... too cool!

Common occurance, for them to change color.
I only wish more people would do some research, before buying these fish.
If you've got enough room for something as monsterous as this, then more power to ya...but honestly, what are you gonna do when it gets this big?..and keep in mind, they get MUCH bigger than that.

dont they get like 3 or 4 feet if they do i would think some thing over a thousnd gallons and you would probably have to keep it alone

how long does it take for it to grow that big? it's about 2 inches long now. i plan on getting a bigger tank in a year or so. got a 125g. now...

They grow quite fast...it's not uncommon for them to reach adult size in 3 - 4 years. Unfortunately, if you plan to keep this fish, you're gonna need a tank that's in the THOUSANDS of gallons.

Also keep in mind that it is not necessarily "cool" that a fish changes color in such cases which is often a sign of stress. It is interesting that they can change colors - most people may not realize this about fish - but always keep in mind why this may be happening.

Unless your talking about a foxface

mine is always brown until its time to feed then hes bright yellow "look at me im yellow FEED ME!!''
then when he has had his fair share he goes back to being black :mad:
