Colors of live rock??

I just aquired a tank that is a year or so old. There is about 70lbs of live rock most of which is a dull brown color. Some of it has some pink and purple and a couple of places of a bright red. Am I correct in assuming that the lack of color may be because it was somewhat neglected by the previous owner? I have replaced the lights and corrected the water problems. Will I start to see some better colors soon? Is there any way to speed it up? Thanks again for all you help!

The color will change with a little time. You could use some stuff called "Purple Up", I used it at first and seemed to help me get some coraline algae faster than my dads tank.

I put calcium in my tank and it does wonders to my LR. But it will take some time before it fully cures and gets that nice purple and pink color.
