colt frag

I tried to glue this frag and so far it has not worked. It just wants to float around the tank. Any ideas?

Im still trying to figure that out too. I have fraged my colt about 3 times in the last three months, and every time I do it, it doesnt want to stay =. Ive tried glue, bridal veil, rubberbands and nothing works. I even saw one of my brittle stars trying to "steal" the frag off the rock. Whats that all about? I am going to buy a small breeder box that hangs in the tank, put some rubble and sand in it, and just try dropping the frags in. Let me know if you find a better way.

Rubberband it to a rock until it attaches, then remove the rubberband. I have never propogated a colt myself but have a few reef buddies who do it all the time.

I've tried that. You can try it dockery, but sometimes its not as easy as it sounds. Are your frags as slimy as mine?

They are so slimey. I think they slop and slide right out of my hand. I guess I will get the critter keeper tomorrow. I would hate to kill them. They were free however.

Im not sure if it is the slime or a chemical that the colt releases whem its cut that attracts the brittle stars. They think the frag is supposed to be disposed of.
Im going with the box method(critter keeper you call it?) because
a. keeps other nosey critters from bothering it
b. keeps the powerheads/circulation from blowing it away
c. keeps the frag closer to the lights by hanging it on the rim of the tank
d. good for fragging shrooms and other corals as well

What type of glue are you using? I recently fragged a leather and I used super glu GEL to attach it to a piece of rubble. First I dried off the piece of LR and then I placed a descent sized drop of glue on the rock and let it set for a little. Then I took the leather and dried off the base. Then I just stuck the two together and let it set out of the water for a couple minutes. Don't be afraid of keeping it out of the water, it will be ok. Make sure you use the GEL and not the liquid stuff. I know it is all slippery with slime, but you have to wipe it off or it interferes with the glue drying. I just glued a shroom down today and it was slithering this way and that way LOL

How does the toothpick method work?
I did use the Gel, I got the rock out of the tank first then I got the frag out afther the glue and the rock were both ready, dried off the frag and it still would not stay stuck.
I forgot I have a breeders box, I put them in there. Lets see how they do.

take a plastic toothpick, and puncture the colt a quater of an inch from the cut. You them have a little colt shiscabob. Get a small piece of rubble and rubberband each end of the toothpick to the rock so that the part that was cut is on the rock.
I am in the middle of doing this. The mother colt healed fine and the frags are full, but just havent attatched yet.

I use the tooth pick method also, and it works great. I leave the toothpick in for about 3 weeks. They are always attached to the LR by then. It is surprising how hard you have to push to get the toothpick to pierce thru the colt. The first time I did it, I figured that it would slide right thru that mushy, soft colt, but they are pretty tough skinned.

I really like the needle and thread method. Just thread the needle with some thread, poke it through the base of the new frag... then tie it onto the rock.
So far (5 out of 5) I havn't lost a frag yet. (when using this method) Just make sure you tie the thread tight around the rock.
