Coming back to saltwater aquariums

This is the first time I have used sand and tried to create a DSB and I'm about ready to pull it all out of the tank. If you do anything in the tank it stirs up and makes it cloudy again. I have never had so much problem with a substrate. I have to have all my feeds turned down to keep it from moving sand around. Then my wife ask if we can put a couple of seashells in the tank, I said fine didn't really want to but I want her to enjoy the tank too. So we put them in last night and this morning the tank is cloudy yet again, because the seashells cause disturbance to the sand when we put them in and now the sand around the shells has slowly eroded away during the night and stirred up the tank AGAIN. Aaaaaaah!! This stuff just seems way to fine to stay in place for anything. I rinsed it all for what seemed like hours before we put it in and still is giving me absolute grief. Anyone want some aragonite sand? :(

First of all - it doesn't sound like you have ANY pumps or powerheads or filters going in your system right now...
You need to turn on all of your pumps and powerheads and filters and everything - get it all running to the max and then wait for a couple few days. The finer sand settles underneath a course layer of top sand. It happens in all new tanks. Just keep the water current going constantly. I know it doesn't make sense, but you will see.

I have a return line running from the sump at probably 800 gph right now, plus a 1200 gph canister filter and a 1200 gph powerhead.

Well I have turned everything back on full blast after my last post. I have both lines from the sump running at approx 700+ gallons per hour and the canister filter still running. After turning everything on I had to turn off the power head, between the water coming from the sump and it it literally caused a mini tornado and was causing sand to get sucked off the bottom all the way to the top of the tank. The sand seems to be endlessly moving around the tank. My DSB is only a 1" in some places.
This sand just seems way to fine and doesn't seem to have a course layer to it.

Pics of everything setup. I finally caved and added some crushed coral on top of the sand bed to stabilize it. It is finally clearing up and looking better. LOL Getting closer to actually enjoying it. Skimmer is dialed in and working good.

My bubble trap gave way today, guess I just have too much flow through my sump. Guess I'm going to have to come up with bigger and better on the sump.

New sump got installed today. Went from a 55 gallon to a 150 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank. So the sump currently has about 100 gallons. I used an old trickle filter box as a bubble trap, seems to be working very well so far.

Pics of tank with the live rock so far. I just ordered 50 pounds Marco Rocks dry rock to add some in the empty middle.

I need to get some algae eaters, got some starting in a couple spots.

I did get some chaeto for the sump.
