compatible tangs

I have a yellow tang and very much wanted to add a purple tang to my tank. The local pet store informed me that they had bad experiences with combining the two. I read on-line that yellow tangs could be combined in threes but not twos. Is this possible with a yellow and a purple tang? Has anyone else had good experiences with the two? The pet store said their yellow tang shredded their purple tang. <img src="graemlins//confused.gif" border="0" alt="[confused]" />

They will constantly fight.. sorry.. but that's not very possible. But then again the post above ^^...
In my experience, it wouldn't work out, but as boomer5 says, "Your tank- your choice" :D

There are a lot of tanks that have purple and yellows together without problems, but it wont work in a 55. One tang is all that should be in a 55.

Even in a 72g it still won't work very well. They are both the same species and body shape - Zebrasoma. It could possible work in a very large tank. I have a yellow in a 125g, I tried to add a purple tang - World War 3 broke out. It got really ugly. I finally gave in and took the purple back.
The Kole or Yellow Eye tang is a completely different species - Ctenochaetus. It is also a different body shape so that is a more feasible combination. But really, one tang in a 72g is plenty. Two is pushing it.
