Computer "muffin" fan for cooling

You all know i am the newbie here, and trying to set up a nice SH tank. I know my temp is too warm right now, and not able to get a chiller. But I did rememberan old puter that was sitting out in the garage. I went and took the fan out of the puter and set in on the tank. I tried using it in both directions. I have found that by blowing the air down seems to work best. I know this may seem silly to some of you. i able to get a nice spread of water along the surface. and also some cooling. I am including a couplke of pictures, please do not laff to hard.

Moisture won't hurt the insulation on the wires...it's the connections that are at risk, and that can be easily rectified with a few dots of RTV silicone.

Thanks, the black elecric wire you see is from my lights, and is actually following the route that comes with the hood. The ones for the fan are the small red and black ones. I just cut them and spliced them into the orignial computer cord.( down about 2 inches) As the fan is blowing down I have not had any moistue around the fan I am guessing it is about 3 inches above the water. As this has only been running for 24 hours I will keep you posted about any problems or concerns.

It does help from what I understand. I know marc for meleves reef does the same thing but he incorporates brackets to hold the fans over some of the sumps he does. I've been thinking about doing something similar. Let us know if you think it's actually helping much or if you need something more powerfull.

We've run puter fans before we bought all of our chillers, and it does work pretty well.
Now I use them to blow across external water pumps to keep them running cooler.

Nope, not silly at all. I use one of these in addition to my ice probe to keep temps down. In small (less than 40 gallon) tanks, this is a very helpful solution to temp problems.
