Confused on where to put ricordia mushroom

I bought ricordia mushroom rock two weeks ago. I think they are ricodia since they have small little tentacles, bubbly kind. It's purple with bright green tentacles.
Now my question is, when I first bought it I put it under the shade. They extended their foot in the direction of the light. In other words looking for more light. So I thought, let's move it to brighter area then. Now that I put it under more intense lighting, they do not open as fully as before, but they does not extend their foot to to get more light anymore.
What do I do?

Are you putting it closer to the top or the bottom of the tank? If the top try putting them down but still under light! That should help!

I put it in the middle, on top of another lr. I have a little problem to move it to the bottom; I have no space. It's a ten gal tank, so it's pretty small. I'll try rearranging my lr. Thanks for the advice. Anyone else?

one think i notice about mushrooms they do not like water currents put them were they don't get alot of water current that woundn't lift them up and closer to the light. i had the same problem and now that they are happy out of 3 shrooms i have 8 in like only 3 months.

Hey naso , GOOD Question...I bought some ricordia about 4/5 weeks ago and they just aren't coming out. I have tried them with a gentle current, no current, in the shade and in the light and still no joy. I have them on the bottom of the tank (40 gallon). When I got them from th lfs they were really reaching for the light and looked pretty good. Now they just sit really small and hardly move at all...

ricordia mushrooms are a low to medium light shroom. If you have Halides they like the bottom a little shade and not much current. Too much light and they will shrink away..
I have mine all the way in the bottom in a little shaded area. They do not recive direct halide light..

I agree that less direct light may be best for ricordia...mine are in a moderate current and about mid way on the reef....they are partially shaded and seem to be doing fine...what was a small section is now 4 seperate colonies and each are way larger than the origional.

Well I'm keeping them under 18 W 50/50 PC, and they're in the middle of the tank. Right now, they're doing ok. Sommetimes they shrink when my cleaner shrimp pokes them. He probably thinks by doing that I will feed him more. He's probably saying, "Feed me or I'll kill your mushroom." :D
Anyway, thanks for the response. I have read info about them, but sometimes those info aren't always right. Thanks for the confirmation guys.
